A whole lot of history surrounds this prestigious university and after the Independence the governance is under the Bombay University Act of 1953. The University of Mumbai has two campuses with one being situated in a sprawling 230 acres of land. The second campus is much smaller and is located in 13 acres and together they makes up 1.25 million square feet of built-up area, 22 thousand sq. feet of class-rooms and 84 thousand sq feet of laboratory space. It has two post-graduate centers, 354 affiliated colleges and 36 Departments. |
There has been a steady increase of undergraduate, postgraduate and distance learning students within the last five years clocking 104 percent, 112 percent and 147 percent respectively – thereby proving the popularity of the University. Hostel facilities are available for students, both male and female separately at Church gate and at Vidyanagari campus. There are two Central Libraries in the campuses and they are both extensive in their stock of books and additional reading rooms are also available for students. |
