proposal for Navi Mumbai. It was finally in 1972 that Mumbai’s twin city Navi Mumbai was developed and as the name suggests it was earlier called New Bombay but was later changed to Navi Mumbai. |

Navi Mumbai is located on the mainland on the Eastern side of Thane creek and holds the distinction of being the largest planned city of the world. While the Mumbai population has reached 13 million people that of Navi Mumbai alone is 2 million people. Vashi and Nerul are the main parts of Navi Mumbai with Nerul having the larger population and together they have the dubious distinction of being the costliest areas in this twin city. The Mumbai Conurbation comprising of Mumbai metro and six main urban areas cites Navi Mumbai Corporation as the richest corporation of all. |

Being the richest and costliest city the average income of Navi Mumbai is, not surprisingly, higher than the rest of Mumbai and literacy level is also 96 percent here. Though people from all parts of India have made Navi Mumbai their home even now 80 percent of the population is of Marathis. However, all kinds of people co-exist here and you will find south Indian temples and churches all making it a very harmonious place to live in. |

Navi Mumbai is also on the brink of getting a new airport as domestic aviation demands are booming and the main airports are running full. Being the most planned city of the world, it’s no wonder that the National Geographic channel has declared Navi Mumbai as one of the best cities in the world. |
