IIT Bombay is situated at Powai, Mumbai, and is a sprawling scenic 200-hectare campus with lakes and hills on either side. The goal is to produce engineers who have strong basis in the Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry coupled with a reasonable amount of knowledge in other subjects like Economics, English, Philosophy, Humanities and Social science. This helps to achieve the dual objective of keeping the student up-to-date with his basic sciences and also to maintain links with the dynamics of the changing society he or she lives in. |
All this has lead to decades of brain drain where the best of our brains have left for greener pastures abroad. Despite this reverse process these days there is no let up in the demand for IIT graduates the world over. In Mumbai each year the IIT Bombay inducts 500 candidates for the undergraduate programme, 100 candidates for M.Sc, 550 candidates for different postgraduate courses and 110 for Ph.D courses every year. The Mumbai institute is indeed one of the most sought after IITs in all of India. |
